Suzuki Hayabusa

|

The Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle was first produced in 1999 and it immediately won acclaim as the fastest production motorcycle in the world with a top speed of 303 to 312 kilometers per hour (188 to 194 mph). In the year 2000, Japanese and European manufacturers reached an agreement to limit the top speed of their motorcycles at an arbitrary limit of 300 km/h (186 mph) due to fears of an European backlash or import ban. This resulted in Hayabusa’s title remaining, at least technically, unassailable, since no other model could be run faster without being tampered with. The name Hayabusa is taken from the Japanese word for “Peregrine Falcon” prey bird which is known for its speed, reaching over 322 km/h (200 mph) during its characteristic hunting stoop (high speed dive), making it the fastest member of the animal kingdom. Hayabusa is also known for its all round performance as it does not compromise on any other qualities such as handling, comfort, reliability, noise, fuel economy or price in pursuit of speed. The top speed of the sports bike was limited to 299 km/h since the 2001 model onwards due to the speed limiting agreement.
